About Rost
Rost was born out of a simple frustration: trying to organize sports groups in Vancouver using WhatsApp.
Like many others in the city, I was part of many, many different WhatsApp chat groups for badminton. The routine was always the same: a host would post a sign-up sheet, and you'd have to copy the entire message, add your name to the list, and post it back in the group chat.
While it was relatively efficient for the players to just copy and paste, I felt like we could do much better. I realized that hosts would have an exponentially easier time if things were automated. They wouldn't need to bring a physical clipboard to the courts to track signups, manually monitor who actually showed up, or constantly keep track of who had already paid.
But existing event platforms were too heavy. They required apps to be downloaded, accounts to be created, and passwords to be remembered. That friction meant players simply wouldn't adopt them over the familiar copy-paste method.
That's why I built Rost.
Frictionless from the start
The goal was to create something as easy as replying in a group chat, but as organized as a dedicated event platform. With Rost, guests don't need an account. They just tap a link, enter their name and phone number, and they're on the list.
It removes the chaos of WhatsApp groups while giving hosts the automated real-time updates and waitlist management they need to run their events smoothly.
While Rost started on the badminton courts, its frictionless approach is built for anyone managing chaos in group chats. Whether you're organizing other sports, tracking general attendance, or even coordinating a group buy, Rost makes it effortless for both you and your guests.
